Canun Westin Lagunamar

My second trip to Cancun didn’t disappoint, while I stayed at the Ritz’s Carlton last month, I wanted to give another hotel a shot and see if there truly was difference of service and value equal to the cost difference. Me being a Marriott loyalist, I selected the Westin Lagunamar and there were a few specific reasons I selected it.

  • In-room washer/dryers

  • Full kitchens

  • Balcony

  • Cost (2 bedrooms, 2 baths, living room, and full kitchen lists for just over $400/night).

I opted to have the hotel make arrangements for me to shuttle to and from the airport. (Side note: I always go this route when traveling out of country.) When I arrived, I stood in line to check-in and then fill-out what seemed to be more paperwork than my re-finance of my home mortgage, including them getting a copy of my passport. They could do a little work on their welcome experience for guests… however, this was the only shortfall I experienced.

After signing my mortgage paperwork, I was greeted by the concierge who contacted me ahead of time and scheduled my ground transportation. Gaby scheduled me for my COVID-19 tests and went over a few activities, food recommendations, and a quick overview of the property and then I was on my way to the room. When I walked-in, I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness, significant amount of storage space, large whirlpool bathtub, and amenities in the kitchen.

I wasn’t in the room too long before I was ready to go find dinner.

After four nights at the resort, I decided I would defiantly be coming back to this property. The Spa was great (heck you can event have a massage in their private cabanas on the beach). Food was delicious and perhaps the best location on the hotel area. It’s right across from the shopping center with a plethora of shops and restaurants, casino, and pharmacy.

They had a plethora of even activities… you can get this list from the concierge when you arrive. But be prepared, they do want to ask you to sit through their timeshare presentations. If you just indicate you’re not interested, they’ll move along and provide any assistance they can with your vacation’s activities.

The pools are great, there are multiple hot tubs, a fabulous spa, great dining options and (perhaps the best) the swim-up restaurant bar you can enjoy lunch or a drink while you sit in the water.
